Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? Acts 9:4
A Prayer for When We Are Saul
Collide with us.
Blind us momentarily.
Interrupt our rampage with a system malfunction,
or at least an abrupt failure of nerve.
Hold us there in the cavernous pause between
past and possibility.
Surround us with disorienting quiet, but for breath-
the sound of it,
the feel of it,
its release and its return.
Let dark’s deep wisdom release rigid muscles,
soften scrutinizing eyes.
Only then, invoke the power of curiosity.
Ask the liberating question.
Whisper “why do you” with compelling compassion|
and wait.
Watch as waves of truth spill out with relief.
How did you know
we would know in our bones this was love?
I love this!
…WHEN we are Saul … and we repent … and learn our real name …
Beautiful and thoughtful, Julie.
Ah, thank you. Thank you.
